Mission Craft Cocktails: Fit for Feel-Good Clinking

It’s hard to top taking that first delicious sip after watching a skilled bartender employ all the techniques required to execute a good-looking cocktail just for your drinking pleasure. Without a full bar and a mixologist on hand, though, replicating that experience might pose a challenge. One solution is stocking the fridge with a good ready-to-drink cocktail that provides the high-end taste of a bar-made cocktail without the necessity to elbow others out for a barstool. Mission Craft Cocktails, with its variety of flavorsome options, presents just that opportunity–with an added reason to feel good. The company lives up to its name with a mission that’s worthy of cheers-ing.

There’s Nothing Like a Classic

The design elements in Mission Craft Cocktails’ bottle labels exude attention to detail down to the gold foil trimmed lettering, and unlike some pesky wine corks, the stoppers in these bottles are easily reusable. The sleek, black gift boxes even have magnetic closures and would make for an impressive host gift. (Other host gift ideas can be found here!) But, as tempting as attractive packaging can be, there’s even something better beyond Mission’s branding, and for that experience, you may need a glass.

A good tiki drink can instantly carry one’s thoughts to the warm beaches of the South Pacific even on the coldest of days, and the mai tai from Mission doesn’t disappoint. This delicious cocktail, clocking in at 25 percent ABV, is made from a mix of coconut-infused white rum and orange liqueur and is sweet, but not overly so. It would be a nice offering to bring to a pool party.

Another tasty option from Mission is its margarita. Thanks to a former college gig at a Mexican chain restaurant (Shoutout to my fellow Chi-Chi’s alums!), the margarita is probably the first cocktail that truly owned my heart, and trying Mission’s version felt like running into an old schoolmate. It’s made from agave blanco tequila and orange liqueur. Coming in at 25 percent ABV, it tastes like a high-end concoction that easily earns the privilege of being poured into a salt-rimmed glass and served to cocktail-loving guests at just about any shindig. And for those who prefer something a little stronger, at 40 percent ABV, Mission’s old fashioned is a bold mix of bourbon and bitters that represents the classic cocktail well. Each bottle contains about four glasses, so you can easily enjoy the cocktails on separate occasions–or not.

Drinking on a Mission

If you thought the only “mission” behind Mission Craft Cocktails was getting buzzed, you would be wrong. (Of course, that might be a pleasant side effect of consuming a few glasses.) The company partners with charities by giving back five percent of proceeds, and through a collaboration with Community Action Partnership of Orange County, a non-profit focused on ending and preventing poverty, Mission has made donations to local food banks that provided over 26,000 meals to families in need, meaning this could finally be your opportunity to pat yourself on the back for celebrating happy hour.

After spending over a decade in New York, Amy Hamblen is still impressively bad at giving directions around the city. Fortunately, not knowing one's exact whereabouts creates the opportunity to stumble into new places, so what she lacks in navigational skills, she makes up for with an abundance of solid happy hour recommendations. Amy is originally from Indiana, and whether or not her years spent covering the food and entertainment scene in NYC has earned her a seat at the table may be debatable, but it's of little consequence — she much prefers a stool at the bar.
