Fashion designer Ashley Stambouli is making her mark in luxury womenswear and in doing so, she embraces femininity, sophistication and elegance in her designs. For the Venezuelan-born, Miami-based designer, it’s all about creating designs for the woman who wants to look both unique and chic. In her namesake atelier, Stambouli creates bridesmaid dresses, bridal gowns, and couture gowns. Inspired by generations of women who instilled in her a passion for sewing and fashion, her pursuit of design began at an early age. Destined for a career in fashion, the successful designer hasn’t looked back and continues forging her own path with custom-made designs. She spoke with us about her most recent collection, cultural influences and her goals for the future.
Tell us about how you first discovered vour passion and talent for fashion design.
Fashion design has always been a significant part of my family’s legacy, and it became an intrinsic part of my life during high school. Growing up, I was immersed in a world of creativity and craftsmanship, as my grandmother was skilled in sewing, and my mother pursued studies in fashion business. These early influences ignited my passion for fashion and sparked my desire to explore more about this world.
Can you describe the woman you design for?
The woman I design for is someone who effortlessly commands attention the moment she enters a room. She exudes a modern, elegant and chic aura, with a flair for making a statement through her fashion choices. Confident and outgoing, she possesses the charisma to carry off bold and sophisticated pieces with ease. My designs are crafted to complement her dynamic personality, empowering her to showcase her individuality
with style and confidence.
What story do you hope to tell through your designs?
The story I aspire to tell through my designs is one of inspiration and empowerment. It’s about transcending boundaries and demonstrating that regardless of one’s background or age, dreams can be achieved. Coming from Venezuela and being young myself, I aim to showcase that with determination and passion, anything is possible. My designs serve as a conduit for this narrative, inviting people to connect not only with the garments but with the ethos of the brand– that dreams are within reach, and every individual has the power to realize their aspirations.
You were born in Venezuela and now live in Miami. Can you tell us how your background and current environment shape your work as a designer, and inspire the fashion you create?
My background in Venezuela and my current life in Miami greatly influence and shape my work as a designer. Growing up in Venezuela, I was surrounded by rich cultural influences, vibrant colors, and a strong sense of community. This upbringing instilled in me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, heritage, and the importance of storytelling through design. Moving to Miami provided me with exposure to a diverse range of cultures, styles, and perspectives. The city’s dynamic energy, melting pot of cultures, and vibrant fashion scene have all left a lasting imprint on my creative process. From the eclectic street style to the glamorous beach culture, Miami’s unique fusion of influences continuously inspires me to push boundaries and experiment with new ideas in my designs.
What can we expect from your 2024 Spring line?
For the 2024 Spring line, I drew inspiration from the beauty of nature and its diverse colors. The collection features a striking green houndstooth print reminiscent of lush landscapes and vibrant foliage, evoking a sense ot adventure and exploration. Additionally, elements such as the world map motit serve as a nod to travel and the boundless wonders of the natural world. In terms of design. the collection embodies a fresh and airy aesthetic with the incorporation of lightweight linen fabrics and strategically placed cut-outs, adding a contemporary edge. Despite the relaxed and effortless feel, each piece exudes a sense of sophistication and elegance, ensuring versatility for both casual outings and more formal occasions. Above all, the 2024 Spring line is about making a statement. Every garment is meticulously crafted to capture attention and spark conversation, reflecting the wearer’s bold and confident spirit. Whether it’s through the vibrant prints, innovative silhouettes, or attention to detail, each piece invites individuals to embrace their unique style and embark on their own fashion journey.
You also design bridesmaids and dresses for the bride-to-be. What prompted you to get into the world of bridal?
My journey into the world of bridal design began in 2019 when I got married myself. During that time, I was determined to create not only my own wedding dress but also the dresses for my bridesmaids. The experience of designing and seeing the final results exceeded my expectations, and the satisfaction of bringing my vision to life was incredibly rewarding. Inspired by the joy and fulfillment I found in designing for my own wedding, I made the decision to incorporate bridal wear into my brand. The intimate connection I formed with the process, coupled with the sheer delight of witnessing the happiness and confidence it brought to myself and my bridesmaids, sparked a passion within me to continue creating memorable and personalized bridal ensembles for others.
Can you describe what it’s like when you see someone wearing your designs?
Seeing someone wearing my designs is an indescribable feeling; it’s truly rewarding beyond words. Each time I witness someone adorned in one of my creations, I’m filled with a profound sense of fulfillment and gratitude. Every dress I design is a labor of love, meticulously crafted with attention to detail and dedication. From the initial concept to the final stitch, there’s a piece of my heart woven into each garment.
Five years from now, what would you have liked to have accomplished with your fashion brand?
In five years, I envision my fashion brand making a significant mark on the global stage. One of my key aspirations is to showcase my designs at prestigious fashion events such as New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and Paris Fashion Week (PFW). I aim to present not only ready-to-wear collections but also haute couture and bridal runway shows, demonstrating the versatility and artistry of my brand across various facets of fashion
Do you have someone that would be your dream client?
Designing for fashion icons like Kendall Jenner, Sophia Richie, and Hailey Bieber would be an absolute dream come true. Each of these influential figures possesses a unique blend of modernity, elegance, and sophistication that perfectly aligns with my brand’s ethos. Kendall’s effortless glamour, Sophia’s edgy chinese, and Hailey’s timeless allure offer a diverse range of styles to draw inspiration from.
When you’re not working on your fashion line, how do you like to spend a relaxing day?
When I’m not immersed in the creative world of fashion design, I love spending quality time with my two children and husband. They are my greatest source of joy and inspiration, and every moment with them is precious. Whether it’s a cozy day at home playing games, enjoying outdoor adventures, or simply sharing laughs and stories, family time is always the highlight of my day.
